When I am asked how long have you been an artist for I do have a little giggle. I mean how long is a piece of stick right? I have always drawn or painted or made mud pies. Not just a margarita mud pie, mine had rosemary and daisies and also gum nuts and leaves to decorate the top and sides.
So how long have I been an artist? I’d have to say…forever! Anyway that’s not what I was planning to write about today…but that does give you an idea of how my brain works sometimes…oh, look, something shiny! hehehehehehehe.
I have been struggling of late to reconcile with the fact that many artists give away their hard earned skills for free. I was steered away from being a starving artist from a young age so I am not wanting to give away my talent for free. When I see people giving away their skills I want to say, Hey, you can value yourself and your time way more than giving it away for free.
With my own dreams of running my Everyone Can Learn To Draw Workshop as an online course I realised that sooo many artists give basic drawing skills away for free. So that sent me into a spin and after many days of, Oh Fuck, now what am I going to do, I have decided (thanks to some helpful words of encouragement from some beautiful friends) to expand my plan and push the idea way beyond the original idea into a series of online workshops. These will be meditative sessions including a 7 day program and a 28 day program too. Now I am back being excited about the opportunity. I might even call it Drawitation! You know, Drawing and Meditation combined!
Sometimes I simply need a few days to process a change in my plans. I usually come up with a better more inspiring concept and that’s exactly what has happened here too. Go me! 🙂
